God of War 3 Remastered PC Audio Issues

The community port supports music, voices and effects, but some cutscene-audio problems remain documented. Separate silence, doubled/echoing speech and synchronization drift, then record the exact scene, release and output configuration. The checked sources do not establish a general fix for missing sound, crackling or every audio-sync problem.

2.4.1 known-issue snapshot. The specific Hephaestus report used 2.2.0 on a GTX 1080 Ti / i9-10900K; it remains listed in the later 2.4.0 release.

Compare the documented cutscene behavior and use the reporting checks without treating an audio-thread crash as the same symptom.

Known cutscene faults have a specific scope

The README lists music, voices and effects using ATRAC9 and MP3. That feature statement does not mean every cutscene is faultless. The 2.3.0 notes name missing music in some cutscenes and sync issues after the River Styx and in Hephaestus’ scene; the 2.4.0 list still explicitly names the Hephaestus audio glitch.

In original issue #264, the reporter used port 2.2.0, a GTX 1080 Ti with driver 581.80 and an i9-10900K. The reported reproduction is the first trip through Aphrodite’s portal to Hephaestus, followed by the full pre-rendered Pandora’s Box scene. The report describes doubled voice/echo with one track out of sync.

That report establishes one reproducible observation, not a cure for all audio problems or proof that every current system has the fault. No log or recording was attached to that initial report, and no matching general repair procedure is established by the checked documentation.

God of War III Remastered describe the audio failure precisely schematic with labelled task distinctions.
Audio symptom schematic. It makes no unsupported claim that changing a driver or sample rate fixes the port.

Useful checks without inventing a remedy

These checks produce a useful reproduction and separate known cutscene behavior from a new silence/crackling report. They are not evidence that changing a sample rate, reinstalling an audio driver or downloading a codec pack repairs this runtime. None of those remedies is supported here.

  1. Describe what is actually wrong

Distinguish all audio missing, music missing while voices continue, distortion, doubled speech and drift that grows during a cutscene. Name the last normal scene and where the change starts.

  2. Record the configuration

Keep port tag, OS, title/build, CPU/GPU/driver and the selected audio output route. Output-device details describe your case; the source does not establish that a particular device type is the cause.

  3. Compare a repeatable scene safely

Preserve the original save before replaying a scene. If you compare another package or configuration, change one condition and record whether the same moment differs. Do not replace your only save to test sound.

  4. Preserve the log and the limit of the result

Keep the failed run’s log and any original recording of the symptom. Include a pre-scene save where relevant. If the fault persists, report it as unresolved rather than calling a restart a proven fix.

A crash after audio startup is a different branch

The historical 2.3.0 known-issue list includes 0xC0000005 in ucrtbase!strlen just after audio threads start. That is a process crash, not proof that a Windows audio-device setting is wrong. Preserve the full fault and use the crash table.

The project still describes audio problems as under investigation. When a release note later names a specific fix, compare its affected scene and build before adopting it as a remedy. For now, this guide supplies the supported diagnostic path and known limits rather than an unverified universal repair.
