God of War 3 Remastered PC Crashing and Launch Errors

Read Advanced → Log or last_run.log before fixing a gow3_pc launch failure. CPU-instruction failures, Windows guest-memory error 1450, incomplete game files, a fullscreen focus crash and an overlay hook need different responses. Some startup and location-specific crashes remain in the 2.4.0 known issues inherited by 2.4.1.

Windows-focused diagnostics; Linux data paths are listed separately. An error code is a clue with a release/build context, not proof of a universal cause.

The log table gives the supported action and stop point for each documented branch.

Identify the executable and preserve the failed run

God of War III.exe is the launcher; the packaged game process is bin\gow3-probe.exe. Record both the port tag shown in the launcher sidebar and the PS4 dump’s title/version. “01.02” identifies game data, while “2.4.1” identifies the community package.

Before relaunching, copy user\last_run.log from the program directory. If you selected a custom Saves folder, use its log instead. Linux defaults to ~/.local/share/gow3; the launcher can also open diagnostics through Advanced → Log. Preserve your saves before attempting any recovery that changes data.

God of War III Remastered use the log to choose an action schematic with labelled task distinctions.
Crash-diagnostic schematic derived from the maintainer’s messages. No automatic cause is inferred from an exit code alone.

Match the actual error, not just “won’t launch”

The README lists CUSA01623/CUSA01715 and versions 01.00/01.02 as tested, while the historical release also names a failing full-01.02 executable. Both can be true for different dump/code combinations. Include the exact game build and hash when that distinction matters; do not assume every “01.02” is byte-identical.

Documented messages and appropriately scoped next actions

Only for the documented guest-memory allocation failure

For error 1450, the README’s Windows procedure is Win + R → SystemPropertiesAdvanced → Performance Settings → Advanced → Virtual memory Change. It gives a custom page-file example of 16,384 MB initial and 24,576 MB maximum on C:, followed by Set, OK and a restart. These are example values for that branch, not a published minimum RAM requirement.

Record the original automatic/custom setting first and ensure the selected drive has enough free space. Changing the page file consumes disk space; restore the previous setting if you need to undo the comparison. A generic warning on an 8-GB system is not the same evidence as the allocation error. Do not apply this branch to a GPU device-memory error merely because both mention memory.

Known crashes and the report endpoint

2.4.0 lists crashes after the Santa Monica logo on some systems and scene-specific failures in the Labyrinth after Boreas Icestorm, during a Bow of Apollo upgrade and in Hephaestus’ area. 2.4.1 points back to those known issues. A new title font in 2.4.1 is not a published cure for those faults.

For an unresolved reproduction, keep the exact runtime tag, OS, CPU/GPU/driver, title/build, scene/action, resolution and engine-rate settings, and the failed log. A save from before the fault helps a maintainer reproduce a progression-specific crash. Back it up using the save procedure before testing anything else.

A missing overlay belongs to overlay targeting; a process that remains alive at an area transition belongs to loading. If the game keeps running and only cutscene speech echoes or drifts, compare the documented audio symptoms. Escalate the matched issue instead of cycling through broad reinstalls.
