Choose by edition and files first
If you already have compatible PS4 Remastered files and want the dedicated launcher, use the Windows installation route or the native Linux AppImage route. If your files and progress belong to the PS3 original, these runtime instructions do not apply. No migration from a PS3 executable to the PS4 executable is described by the project.
What belongs to each route
On a narrow screen, scroll the table horizontally to read every column.
| Route | Game edition | Practical boundary |
|---|---|---|
| gow3_pc | PS4 God of War III Remastered | Use the project’s extracted PS4 game folder and its launcher/runtime instructions |
| Standalone shadPS4 | PS4 God of War III Remastered | Use that emulator’s own setup, compatibility information and data location |
| RPCS3 | PS3 God of War III | PS3 executable and saves do not become Remastered inputs |

What native execution means in this project
The project replaces system-facing behavior with its own runtime while the original x86-64 game code runs directly on the CPU. Graphics use shadPS4’s Vulkan video core and cuesta4’s fixes. This explains the project’s architecture; it does not turn it into a Sony-supported PC release or imply that no emulation-related components are present.
The maintainer also notes that running the CPU code directly is part of how shadPS4 works. Therefore “native” alone is not a valid reason to claim this route must always be faster. A comparison needs the same hardware, game build, scene, settings and cache conditions, which were not measured here.

Files, instructions and saves that cannot be mixed
The supported import described in the README is a shadPS4 save for the same Remastered title ID. RPCS3 saves belong to the PS3 game and are incompatible with that import. Back up both locations before using the slot-by-slot transfer procedure.
Do not copy an emulator’s graphics recipe, firmware procedure or PS3 patch address into gow3_pc merely because both mention God of War III. The port’s render resolution, engine-rate patches and GPU readback options are its own configuration path. Likewise, its experimental AppImage is a native Linux application; selecting Proton is a separate and potentially wrong launch choice.

What this comparison can help you decide
Choose the route whose edition and file requirements match what you actually own and want to run. For an existing shadPS4 Remastered player, save import may reduce the cost of evaluating the dedicated runtime. For a PS3 player, keeping the original game and its emulator avoids pretending those saves are interchangeable.
There is no matched three-route benchmark in the checked sources. The project’s RX 6700 XT reference numbers describe one runtime observation; they cannot rank RPCS3, shadPS4 and gow3_pc on your machine. Keep a working setup and its saves while evaluating another route.
